Compare documented capabilities against mandatory project requirements. A cloud category is neither an inventory guarantee nor a substitute for checking the selected resource.
Runpod Community Cloud and Secure Cloud differ in infrastructure placement and available features. For Pods, network volumes are documented as a Secure Cloud option. A project needing independent persistent storage should account for that boundary before assuming every Pod can use the same configuration.
Define the mandatory requirements
The Pod overview describes Secure Cloud in data centres and Community Cloud through vetted third-party hosts. This is the provider’s product description, not an independent test of each machine.
Write down data location, minimum VRAM, disk type, administrative access and session length. A lower compute rate does not make a resource suitable when an essential requirement is missing. Apply those filters before comparing a complete session’s cost.
Compare storage boundaries
| Project question | Community Cloud | Secure Cloud |
|---|---|---|
| Can it run a Pod? | Check current offers | Check current offers |
| Network volume for the Pod | Not the documented supported option | Supported with placement constraints |
| Does /workspace prove the disk type? | No | No |
| Does the category guarantee a GPU now? | No such guarantee follows | No such guarantee follows |
An existing network volume constrains compatible placement. Select an available GPU in the appropriate data centre or plan a data transfer. Separate volumes do not become synchronized merely because they share an account or similar names.
Match the architecture to the experiment
A team repeatedly changes GPUs while maintaining edited annotations. Independent storage matters because Pods may be replaced. It first tests a small project and recovery path, then evaluates compute configurations.
A short, fully reproducible job that exports results externally can have different local-retention requirements. Its temporary compute does not make the result disposable. Confirm export before deletion and preserve enough configuration to reproduce the job elsewhere.
Check access and organisational needs
The category alone does not prove that the selected Pod has the SSH or port-publication method a tool needs. Verify Connect information, image requirements and the real service. SFTP and a private tunnel require a suitable full SSH path.
For organisational data requirements, compare the actual product documents with a concrete checklist instead of inferring suitability from the word Secure. This article compares published capabilities, not universal approval for a data regime. Save category, location, storage ID, copy method and exit procedure with the research date. That makes the decision reviewable even when offers change before the next session.
Turn the check into a practical next step
Compare documented capabilities against mandatory project requirements. A cloud category is neither an inventory guarantee nor a substitute for checking the selected resource.
