NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000: 8GB in the original single-slot RTX

In this article
THE QUICK TAKE

Keep8GB Turing, active cooling and the 160W board boundary explicit.

NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 is assessed here as an exact Turing board configuration. Its published 8 GB capacity is the starting point for a workload qualification, not a measured serving or rendering result.

Exact model and memory variants

The original Quadro RTX 4000 is an 8 GB GDDR6 Turing single-slot card. Its160 W board rating differs from the 125 W graphics-power field.

LLM backend and memory budget

Turing passes the current vLLM architecture floor, while8 GB constrains package, runtime, weights and context. Validate the actual format first; do not transfer newer Ampere or Ada features to this board.

Passing the architecture requirement does not certify every model, quantization kernel or prebuilt package.

Compatibility evidence: vLLM GPU requirements.

Cycles and batch rendering

Validate the applicable first-generation RTX OptiX path and complete scene. Comparing Ada 4000 20 GB or Blackwell 4000 24 GB requires separate results rather than a shared product number.

Integration into a server or workstation

The active single-slot body requires a clear intake despite its compact width. Record whether the 8 GB also drives displays. Use total-board power consistently when comparing installation envelopes; the lower graphics field has another boundary.

A concrete qualification scenario

An older CAD workstation becomes a controlled local-model test host. Preserve the normal desktop state and choose one small quantized artifact. Record whether failure occurs at runtime initialization, weight loading or context execution. Render a small reference scene independently. The evidence should identify this8 GB Turing configuration rather than a broad statement that everyRTX4000 has the same capacity or compatibility.

The evidence to retain

Keep an ordinary qualification record with the actual test outputs.

Identify the tested variant, software build and execution mode before entering observations. Leave unavailable measurements explicitly unknown.

The fields below separate published specifications from observed allocation and job completion, so a later operator can repeat the same case.

Evidence fieldWhat this profile must retain
Hardware identityNVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000; physical variant and reported device identifier
Memory boundary8 GB published; observed free memory before and after loading
Inference artifactExact weights digest, quantization, context and offload configuration
Render artifactScene digest, renderer version, backend and denoising setting
System envelopeDriver, container/build digest, enclosure and cooling configuration
Completion evidenceApplication exit status, output validity and observed memory failures

The 125 W graphics field cannot replace the 160 W board field in installation comparisons; the 8 GB Turing hardware identity remains unchanged.
