Neither catalog size nor API success selects a universal winner. Compare the actual route, application quality and payment path.
OpenRouter and Requesty are options for managed access to several models. Catalog row count is not the decision: required functions, routing, billing and incident evidence matter. Official materials were checked on November 1, 2026. We claim neither faster nor cheaper without measurement, instead proposing repeatable workload checks.
A short comparison
| Criterion | OpenRouter | Requesty |
|---|---|---|
| Integration start | OpenRouter key and common model-catalog endpoint | Requesty key and OpenAI-compatible endpoint |
| Customer keys | Supported-provider BYOK with shared-capacity settings | BYOK with key selection in fallback policy |
| Backup configuration | Verify provider selection separately from model fallbacks | A fallback-policy identifier can be passed as model |
| Selling owned inference | Public provider application; separate approval required | Client API does not establish external GPU-provider acceptance; agree this separately |
Check OpenRouter BYOK and the Requesty guidance below. Requesty Fallback Policies documents policy/…. BYOK support does not imply identical fees, restrictions or fallback order.
Begin with an equivalent task
OpenRouter Quickstart and Requesty Quickstart describe common interfaces. Select a model and capabilities supported in both; document differences before testing if exact equivalence is impossible.
Preserve requests, context limits and quality criteria. API completion does not prove suitability. Validate structure, tools and language equally so the comparison answers the same question.
Compare explicit policies
Define allowed executors, backup models and total waiting time, then express the scheme in each product. Similar feature names do not establish identical behavior when no target is eligible.
For example, the primary fails and the backup supports shorter context. Establish whether the request is rejected, transformed or sent onward, and verify the behavior respects application requirements.
Check keys and billing
Run separate BYOK and managed-key controls. Requesty BYOK documents customer credentials; check OpenRouter conditions for the particular plan and provider rather than inferring them from API compatibility.
Identify where charges arise and how they link to logs. Include additional features and team work beside model rates. A changed payment source during fallback must appear in the budget model.
Investigate one incident
Use a test error to identify executor, attempts, failure location and total time. Check access to details and export. Interface and organizational differences may matter more than small average-latency differences, but that conclusion belongs to your test.
Agree acceptable fallback differences before choosing. A team permitting model changes and one requiring the same executor need different evaluation criteria.
Verify inference sales separately
Connecting an owned GPU service requires more than a user comparison. OpenRouter provider onboarding is public; other-channel terms need separate confirmation. A client gateway does not establish them.
Read sales-channel selection and complete routing cost.
