NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Max-Q Workstation Edition: 96GB at a 300W board limit

In this article
THE QUICK TAKE

The result is a qualified slot layout, not an automatic multiplier from card count.

NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Max-Q Workstation Edition is assessed here as an exact Blackwell board configuration. Its published 96 GB capacity is the starting point for a workload qualification, not a measured serving or rendering result.

Exact model and memory variants

Max-Q combines96 GB GDDR7 ECC with a 300 W total-board limit and active dual-slot cooling. It is a distinct dense-workstation design.

LLM backend and memory budget

Same stated per-device memory as the 600 W workstation edition, with a different power envelope. Benchmark actual batching, context and multi-GPU topology; equal capacity does not establish equal throughput.

Passing the architecture requirement does not certify every model, quantization kernel or prebuilt package.

Compatibility evidence: vLLM GPU requirements.

Cycles and batch rendering

Active dual-slot RTX option for multi-board rendering. Assign frames or explicitly supported distributed work; do not add GPU memories automatically.

Integration into a server or workstation

Dense placement requires a slot map showing each cooler intake and the CPU-to-GPU topology. The 300 W board specification is not measured system wall power. Check the populated layout under sustained work.

A concrete qualification scenario

Compare one card with the intended populated workstation using the same model and prompt set. Render separate frames on separate workers. Record per-device memory rather than a fictitious combined384 GB device. If population changes completion behavior, repeat with one worker stopped to separate placement contention from artifact compatibility.

The evidence to retain

Keep an ordinary qualification record with the actual test outputs.

Identify the tested variant, software build and execution mode before entering observations. Leave unavailable measurements explicitly unknown.

The fields below separate published specifications from observed allocation and job completion, so a later operator can repeat the same case.

Evidence fieldWhat this profile must retain
Hardware identityNVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Max-Q Workstation Edition; physical variant and reported device identifier
Memory boundary96 GB published; observed free memory before and after loading
Inference artifactExact weights digest, quantization, context and offload configuration
Render artifactScene digest, renderer version, backend and denoising setting
System envelopeDriver, container/build digest, enclosure and cooling configuration
Completion evidenceApplication exit status, output validity and observed memory failures

A populated Max-Q workstation needs per-device observations; a combined memory total cannot identify which worker retained an allocation.
