NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell: 48GB and72GB are separate variants

In this article
THE QUICK TAKE

Preserve the explicit memory variant in every inference and scene record.

NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell is assessed here as an exact Blackwell board configuration. Its published 48/72 GB capacity is the starting point for a workload qualification, not a measured serving or rendering result.

Exact model and memory variants

The official page lists48 GB and 72 GB GDDR7 ECC variants under one Blackwell 5000 name. Capacity must therefore be part of the inventory identity.

VariantMemoryPublished board powerCooling / format
NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell 48 GB48 GB GDDR7 ECC300 WActive; 4.4 x 10.5 in; dual slot
NVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell 72 GB72 GB GDDR7 ECC300 WActive; 4.4 x 10.5 in; dual slot

Specifications: Official product/support documentation.

LLM backend and memory budget

Both published capacities require the same careful weights/KV/runtime accounting; 72 GB should not be inferred from a 48 GB listing or software-reported free memory. Confirm the actual SKU before choosing a workload.

Passing the architecture requirement does not certify every model, quantization kernel or prebuilt package.

Compatibility evidence: vLLM GPU requirements.

Cycles and batch rendering

RTX/Cycles candidate with useful per-device scene capacity; compare the same scene and backend across variants rather than estimating render speed from capacity.

Integration into a server or workstation

Both published capacities use an active300 W dual-slot envelope. Virtualization support must be read for the exact variant and software release; a 72 GB entry does not automatically certify every sibling.

A concrete qualification scenario

A team receives mixed48 GB and 72 GB boards. Create separate inventory rows and run an identical first model/context case. Only then evaluate a larger artifact as a separate case. Retain a common reference scene and an independently chosen larger scene. Record success or failure without describing the 72 GB board as automatically faster.

The evidence to retain

Keep an ordinary qualification record with the actual test outputs.

Identify the tested variant, software build and execution mode before entering observations. Leave unavailable measurements explicitly unknown.

The fields below separate published specifications from observed allocation and job completion, so a later operator can repeat the same case.

Evidence fieldWhat this profile must retain
Hardware identityNVIDIA RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell; physical variant and reported device identifier
Memory boundary48/72 GB published; observed free memory before and after loading
Inference artifactExact weights digest, quantization, context and offload configuration
Render artifactScene digest, renderer version, backend and denoising setting
System envelopeDriver, container/build digest, enclosure and cooling configuration
Completion evidenceApplication exit status, output validity and observed memory failures

If inventory omits48 GB versus72 GB, do not infer the variant from a successful small workload; both can complete the same control.
