NVIDIA Quadro GV100: 32GB Volta needs a pinned stack

In this article
THE QUICK TAKE

32GB Volta is conditional legacy reuse, not current vLLM compatibility.

NVIDIA Quadro GV100 is assessed here as an exact Volta board configuration. Its published 32 GB capacity is the starting point for a workload qualification, not a measured serving or rendering result.

Exact model and memory variants

Quadro GV100 is a 32 GB HBM2 ECC Volta workstation board with 250 W active dual-slot cooling. Tensor cores do not change itsCC7.0 identity.

LLM backend and memory budget

CC 7.0 is below current vLLM requirements despite Tensor cores. Evaluate llama.cpp with explicit sm_70 target and CUDA12.x; preserve driver/build artifacts and test quantization before admitting a workload.

The current vLLM requirement is compute capability7.5 or higher; this architecture is below that floor.

Compatibility evidence: llama.cpp CUDA build configuration and the NVIDIA architecture matrix. The current vLLM capability floor excludes this architecture.

Cycles and batch rendering

Cycles5.2 architecture eligibility remains; there are no RTX RT cores. A supported driver and scene memory test are required, and NVLink memory use is application-specific.

Integration into a server or workstation

Volta belongs to a retained-toolchain path: the NVIDIA matrix stops toolkit support at CUDA12.x and driver support at R580. A new CUDA13 build should not silently replace the working legacy artifact. Keep build identity in deployment metadata.

A concrete qualification scenario

A lab wants to reuse a 32 GB GV100 after a research project. Build and archive a controlled sm_70 inference artifact, then validate one saved model/context case. Run the renderer independently with its compatible driver and retain the result. If a newer generic package rejects the device, preserve that evidence without treating the 32 GB capacity as defective. The acceptance boundary includes the retained software path.

The evidence to retain

Keep an ordinary qualification record with the actual test outputs.

Identify the tested variant, software build and execution mode before entering observations. Leave unavailable measurements explicitly unknown.

The fields below separate published specifications from observed allocation and job completion, so a later operator can repeat the same case.

Evidence fieldWhat this profile must retain
Hardware identityNVIDIA Quadro GV100; physical variant and reported device identifier
Memory boundary32 GB published; observed free memory before and after loading
Inference artifactExact weights digest, quantization, context and offload configuration
Render artifactScene digest, renderer version, backend and denoising setting
System envelopeDriver, container/build digest, enclosure and cooling configuration
Completion evidenceApplication exit status, output validity and observed memory failures

Tensor hardware does not move Volta fromCC7.0 to the current vLLM floor; retain the tested sm_70 build after maintenance.
