Cloud credits are not cash or an automatic right to rent out GPUs. Identify the support and its terms before discussing a permitted pilot without account transfer.
“Grant-funded compute” can mean a physical server, cloud discount, promotional credits or access to a research facility. These are fundamentally different situations for cooperation with a GPU pool. The resource type determines what an external operator can reasonably discuss.
First name the resource accurately. This avoids an unsuitable arrangement and produces a substantive inquiry rather than an offer to “transfer the remaining grant”.
Identify what you control
Record programme provider, recipient, expiry and eligible services. For a physical server, add owner, configuration and location. For cloud resources, describe access type and permitted tasks without keys or account credentials.
A laboratory might have both a workstation and separate cloud credits. Permission to discuss the workstation with an operator does not imply permission to transfer credits or the account. Assess these parts independently.
Check programme restrictions
There is no rule covering every support programme. For example, AWS Promotional Credit terms prohibit selling, renting and transferring promotional credits, while separately describing permitted sharing within an AWS Organization. They also set expiry and expense-coverage conditions.
Those are facts about one programme, not an interpretation of your grant. Review your documents and ask the funding provider where necessary. Community experience or similar programme names cannot replace that check.
Define a permitted objective
Instead of reselling a resource, identify an allowed task: a research test, model evaluation or project-result preparation. External participation needs agreement within programme rules.
Technical consultation does not require full account control. Initially describe configuration and experiment objective. Who runs tasks, where data lives and who pays above the allowance are separate questions to settle before work begins.
Compare with continuing on owned hardware
A permitted cloud test may help select a model for a later physical server decision. Preserve environment versions, workload settings and measurement method; otherwise the comparison will not transfer reliably.
Spending credits does not confirm demand for a commercial service. An experiment establishes only what its conditions tested. External users, operating expense and sales channels need separate evaluation.
A useful result is a short resource map with distinct equipment, credit and access-right rows. Give each a permitted task, deadline and owner. It may reveal a viable route when the initial transfer idea is unsuitable.
Assessment notes
State resource type, permitted task, availability and approval status.
Do not send tokens, promotional codes or account access in the first message. Your objective and constraints are enough. Review the grant-equipment checklist and reproducible environment guidance.
