NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 for LLM inference and GPU rendering

In this article
THE QUICK TAKE

The RTX 5070 needs explicit context and scene budgets; a newer GPU generation does not make 12 GB equivalent to 16 GB.

Identify the 12 GB model

The desktop RTX 5070 has 12 GB GDDR7 and reference board power of 250 W. Its neighboring RTX 5070 Ti has a different capacity: 16 GB. That matters when residency, rather than computation alone, determines feasibility. The Blackwell name cannot expand available memory automatically. The table gives memory per GPU without assuming several cards pool it. For a partner board, inspect cooling design and power connections separately. Preserve free VRAM before startup as an environment observation distinct from the nominal 12 GB product specification.

Start the LLM budget with history

vLLM installation requires checking the Linux environment, hardware floor and software component compatibility. Select an explicitly supported Blackwell configuration for the RTX 5070 and record the actual backend. Loading weights successfully does not answer whether a long conversation works. Hold one checkpoint and output limit constant while changing only request history. Preserve peak memory and stopping reason. If resources become insufficient, inspect KV cache and batching rather than promising that every model file smaller than 12 GB will serve arbitrary context and client counts without difficulty.

Render and reopen the saved project

The Cycles documentation separates GPU backends from memory limitations. A useful RTX 5070 experiment packages a reproducible project with all external assets: render the prepared scene, close the worker, then repeat from the saved package. This can reveal missing textures, preparation differences and an incorrectly preserved GPU selection. A supporting backend can use RTX hardware tracing, but that does not guarantee the same support across render engines. Record any fallback to host RAM separately: a completed image does not establish that work remained within local VRAM or that conditions matched across both launches.

Establish a worker environment

The server record contains PCI identity, driver version, engine build and model and scene paths. Jobs receive a specified GPU and separate output directories. Displays and interactive applications can change the baseline, so do not mix headless and workstation runs in one comparison. Observe remaining processes after job completion. The 250 W figure concerns the reference board; measure observed energy and whole node power at the relevant boundary. A model name does not replace checking actual cooling and card placement inside the selected chassis. Worker reproducibility depends on this environment as well as the project files.

Identify the memory constrained task

The final artifact contains the LLM history corpus, packaged scene, reopening results and separate VRAM/RAM logs. If long histories fail but the scene passes, the GPU may suit a rendering role with a different inference envelope. If only the scene fails, investigate its assets and preparation. Evaluate a 16 GB alternative as another configuration rather than a promised remedy for every failure. The decision concerns tested files and versions. It does not establish a universal RTX 5070 ranking, tokens per second or a future service’s commercial throughput without measuring the intended workload separately.
