NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti for LLM inference and GPU rendering

THE QUICK TAKE

RTX 4060 Ti 8/16 GB variants differ in capacity; route jobs to the actual card and do not turn unknown power into zero.

Preserve the 8 and 16 GB distinction

NVIDIA lists RTX 4060 Ti variants with 8 GB and 16 GB GDDR6. This is capacity per GPU rather than two modes of one installed card. The checked combined source lists 165 or 160 W without a reliable per-variant mapping in the examined table. Per-variant power therefore remains unknown until selecting an exact AIB specification. Unknown is not zero. The RTX 4060 without Ti is another model. Worker inventory must preserve capacity and board manufacturer, otherwise an identical model name can lead to incorrect job admission decisions.

Give the LLM its own envelope

The vLLM documentation defines a hardware minimum rather than certifying every checkpoint, dtype or kernel. Test both Ti variants with a pinned software stack. A configuration passing on 16 GB cannot automatically be assigned to an 8 GB worker. Run another bounded test with its context, output limit and chosen concurrency first. llama.cpp CUDA offers another path with offloading that needs explicit observation. Host RAM work must remain visible instead of disappearing merely to give both variants the same success status. Quantization quality is also separate from whether a weight file can be loaded.

Rendering needs another manifest

Use Cycles CUDA or OptiX with an appropriate driver and Blender release. Select a scene with packed assets and observe its footprint on the Ti. If the 8 GB variant uses system memory while the 16 GB variant keeps data local, they are different execution modes. Check the image independently of process exit. Supporting backends can use RTX hardware tracing; another renderer needs its own acceptance. More memory does not promise twice the scene size, since structures, resolution and textures interact. Preserve the render envelope separately from inference even when both jobs use the same GPU.

Schedule heterogeneous workers

A practical installation can contain both Ti versions. Match manifest requirements to a verified worker class without adding the cards’ memory into one resource. Select device identity explicitly rather than assuming enumeration order survives reboot. Each board needs its own power and cooling record; a combined 165/160 W list cannot replace AIB documentation. Observe host RAM and resident processes. If a job reaches the wrong device, begin diagnosis with mapping instead of changing models or drivers. Success on one GPU does not authorize arbitrary workloads on the other. Scheduling evidence and task compatibility are separate checks.

Verify the routing rule

The artifact contains manifests for a smaller and a more demanding workload, both GPU records and the actual worker selection log. Record card identity, memory, status and rejection reason for every attempt. If the rule sends work to an unsuitable class, correct scheduling and repeat the bounded experiment. If selection is correct but an operation is unsupported, investigate the backend. This decision confirms a specific set of routes for RTX 4060 Ti 8/16 GB. It establishes no universal fit, known job energy or pooled capacity, and unknown specification fields cannot become evidence of hardware efficiency.
