Radeon RX 9070 XT: 16 GB RDNA 4 deployment boundaries

THE QUICK TAKE

Radeon RX 9070 XT is an official RDNA 4 card with 16 GB GDDR6 and a 304 W board-power specification.

Radeon RX 9070 XT is an official RDNA 4 card with 16 GB GDDR6 and a 304 W board-power specification. It is a candidate for validated LLM inference and Cycles, but its generation name does not establish engine compatibility.

Official variants and the memory boundary

The table follows AMD materials for this model. It describes dedicated device memory, not system RAM. A “not verified” entry preserves a source gap; a neighboring configuration cannot supply the missing specification.

Establish the LLM software path

The ROCm Core SDK 10.1.0 device list includes Radeon RX 9070 XT. This is an exact hardware entry, not approval for every operating system, PyTorch build, or quantization format. Select the specific GPU and OS in the compatibility matrix, then record the driver, runtime, and framework release. A listed card does not establish that every kernel used by an inference engine works correctly. Establish device detection, loading of a saved model revision, and a reference request before exploring sustained operation or concurrent requests.

A practical scenario for this model

Consider a workstation whose requirement is to preserve the original checkpoint quality, rather than merely produce an answer. For a hypothetical dense model with 8 billion parameters, storing every weight in 16 bits requires 16 billion bytes for weights alone. This is an arithmetic example, not a claim that a real model fits: metadata, working buffers, and KV cache need additional space. A card labeled 16 GB therefore has no established remaining margin under that calculation. Choose an acceptable model representation first, then compare reference outputs and actual placement. Reduced precision should be a separate quality decision, not a hidden way to declare the original profile operational. Preserve one short and one long synthetic request using the same tokenizer revision.

Validate Blender Cycles separately

RDNA 4 meets the HIP hardware floor in the Blender Cycles 5.2 LTS manual: RDNA 1 or newer. This renderer requirement is independent of ROCm LLM support; validate the actual driver, build, and scene on the intended machine.

For a scene with procedural materials, preserve a reference frame and enable additional geometry one collection at a time. This separates a material-compilation problem from memory exhaustion in a complex scene.

Preserve a machine-level acceptance record

The table gives AMD board-power specifications, not measured whole-computer consumption. Check the power supply, connectors, card dimensions, and airflow path for the actual system separately. Board power cannot establish inference speed.

Record the exact device name, chosen weight precision, and reference-output differences for RX 9070 XT. Gaming FPS and advertised matrix peaks cannot replace that acceptance artifact.

The acceptance artifact should connect board identity, software versions, model revision, and the workload actually exercised. After any of those changes, the old result describes its original run rather than establishing compatibility of the new configuration.
