Radeon PRO VII: PRO VII is distinct from consumer Radeon VII

THE QUICK TAKE

Radeon PRO VII has 16 GB HBM2 and a 250 W board specification.

Radeon PRO VII has 16 GB HBM2 and a 250 W board specification. It differs from consumer Radeon VII, and Vega 20 establishes neither current Cycles HIP nor automatic ROCm support.

Official variants and the memory boundary

The table follows AMD materials for this model. It describes dedicated device memory, not system RAM. A “not verified” entry preserves a source gap; a neighboring configuration cannot supply the missing specification.

Establish the LLM software path

Radeon PRO VII is absent from the checked ROCm Core SDK 10.1.0 GPU list. Support for a neighboring model cannot be transferred through a shared generation or a similar name. For a separate experiment, the llama.cpp build documentation describes a Vulkan backend. That route requires a suitable driver, detection of the actual device, and validation of the selected GGUF; Vulkan in a specification does not establish that every operation works. Save tensor-placement logs and compare output with a reference run before concluding that the GPU is actually involved. This is not a claim of current official ROCm support for this card.

A practical scenario for this model

The practical example is an inventory recording both cards as “VII, 16 GB” and incorrectly combining their results. Recover the complete PRO prefix and the relevant specification source for each board first. Matching capacity and memory type cannot establish an identical software profile or other hardware properties. Preserve a separate version set, detection log, and reference request on the actual PRO VII for a model experiment. Installing several boards with 16 GB each does not automatically create one combined memory pool. The selected backend needs explicit support for the intended placement, and reference output must belong to that layout. Historical professional positioning cannot replace evidence that current model operations execute, nor transfer past qualification between these two products.

Validate Blender Cycles separately

Vega 20 predates the RDNA 1 HIP hardware floor in the Blender Cycles 5.2 LTS manual. It is therefore not a current Cycles HIP target; historical compute support or a ROCm LLM experiment cannot establish renderer eligibility.

For archived visualization, identify the original engine and project release first. Current Cycles HIP has a different hardware floor that the professional VII name cannot change.

Preserve a machine-level acceptance record

The table gives AMD board-power specifications, not measured whole-computer consumption. Check the power supply, connectors, card dimensions, and airflow path for the actual system separately. Board power cannot establish inference speed.

Preserve PRO VII, Vega 20, 16 GB HBM2, and 250 W. A separate consumer Radeon VII record prevents accidental mixing of sources, experimental results, and limitations of the two boards.

The acceptance artifact should connect board identity, software versions, model revision, and the workload actually exercised. After any of those changes, the old result describes its original run rather than establishing compatibility of the new configuration.
