NVIDIA's standard desktop RTX 4090 specification lists 24GB memory. An advertisement saying RTX 4090 48GB should therefore be investigated rather than treated as a standard NVIDIA configuration. It may describe a modification, two devices, a different product or an incorrect memory total.

This article does not validate any particular modified card or seller. The first objective is to establish exactly what hardware is being offered.

## Verify the product identity

Start with NVIDIA's official RTX 4090 specification. Ask for the precise board model and the origin of any claimed modification. A seller's screenshot does not replace a clear description of the hardware and service arrangement.

Do not add host RAM to GPU VRAM. Extra system memory does not turn a standard 24GB card into a 48GB device-local accelerator. If the system uses offload, describe that as a separate execution configuration.

## Distinguish possible meanings

| Listing description | Evidence needed |
| --- | --- |
| Modified card | Modification history and reported memory |
| Two 24GB devices | Device count and supported distributed execution |
| Another professional GPU | Exact product identifier and specification |
| Combined RAM and VRAM | Corrected resource description |

A larger reported capacity does not by itself establish stable computation. Inventory and workload acceptance answer different questions and should produce separate records.

## Use diagnostics within their limits

NVIDIA SMI documents information available from supported devices. Preserve driver version, reported model, observed memory and relevant health information. An unavailable counter is not automatically evidence of a fault; support varies by product.

Review diagnostic output before sharing it. An initial operator discussion usually needs a configuration summary, not serial numbers or internal site details. The tool's output also does not establish modification provenance or standard warranty coverage.

## Run a bounded acceptance pilot

Use supported normal settings and an agreed workload without unrelated production tasks. Check artifact loading, different input sizes, sustained operation and a restart. Evaluate result correctness alongside errors and memory.

Compare observations after a cold start and after sustained work. Filling a large buffer alone is not a successful model-service test. Define the failure procedure and how servicing would be obtained if an unusual configuration becomes unstable.

If offering such equipment, state any modification explicitly and include the evidence available to the owner. A reproducible identity and a useful verified scenario are the basis for a concrete assessment.
