DeepSeek-V3.2 and DeepSeek-V3.2-Speciale have an important capability difference: Speciale is designed for deep reasoning and does not support tool calling. A task that requires tools therefore cannot be selected by reasoning benchmark scores alone.

## Read the release distinction

The [regular V3.2 card](https://huggingface.co/deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-V3.2) describes thinking with tools. The [Speciale card](https://huggingface.co/deepseek-ai/DeepSeek-V3.2-Speciale/raw/main/README.md) describes the reasoning-focused alternative and its tool-use limitation. Similar architecture does not make these checkpoints interchangeable at the application boundary.

The [dated release announcement](https://api-docs.deepseek.com/news/news251201/) also describes a temporary Speciale API offering from 2025. Its expiry information is historical. It must not be turned into a claim that the old endpoint remains usable today, nor does that historical endpoint define the availability of downloaded weights.

## Separate two task shapes

A self-contained mathematical problem supplies all required facts and asks for a checked result. A tool-dependent task needs an external observation before it can decide, such as the output of a deterministic calculation routine.

Use fictional inputs and a mocked tool for the second task. The model's proposal to call the tool, the supplied observation and the final answer are separate stages. A plausible answer produced without the required observation does not satisfy the task contract.

## Write acceptance conditions before choosing

| Requirement | Suitable evidence |
| --- | --- |
| Self-contained reasoning | Final answer passes independent checks |
| Required tool use | Valid proposal receives the declared observation |
| Follow-up reasoning | Final answer incorporates the actual observation |
| Output completion | Usable answer arrives before the declared limit |
| Model identity | Exact checkpoint revision is recorded |

Do not retrofit a pretend tool conversation around Speciale and then call that native tool support. An application can orchestrate separate components, but that is a different architecture from a checkpoint trained to participate in the required tool format.

## Diagnose an attractive but invalid result

If a response supplies a correct-looking number without requesting the required input, inspect whether it guessed information that was supposed to come from the tool. If the reasoning task stops without a final result, separate output exhaustion from a completed wrong answer.

If a tool proposal is malformed, first verify the regular model's format and implementation. Switching to Speciale cannot solve an unsupported tool interface simply by providing more reasoning capability.

## Preserve a capability-based decision

Keep one selection record for self-contained reasoning and another for tool-dependent work. Include the prompt, reference answer or tool observation, generation settings and acceptance outcome. State which checkpoint the evidence actually covers.

The result can justify a regular V3.2 workflow for required tools or a Speciale experiment for bounded deep reasoning. It does not create current hosted availability, guarantee a better answer on every math problem or establish a universal ranking between the variants.
